Types of Heating Elements
Most people can not even imagine what life was like before the proliferation of heating elements. You can find heating elements just about everywhere these days, including medical and home appliances, automobiles, and industrial products. Electricity is transformed to heat thanks to these elements. Chromium alloy filaments are used in the heating elements of most consumer appliances. Nichrome is the most common heating element, most likely because of its low cost and high resistance. A copper or stainless steel sheath covers filler materials which surround the inner wire of the heating element.
Types of Heating Elements
Nichrome (an alloy of nickel and chromium) is commonly used as the heating element for such appliances as ovens toasters, and hair dryers. It is resistant to corrosion and is a silver grey color.
Calrod (also known as sealed element) is a coil of nichrome wire with a ceramic binder which is sealed in a metal shell. These elements can either be straight or twisted.
Positive Thermal Coefficient ceramic (also known as PTC ceramic) has high resistivity. You will find thin layers of this material in expensive hair dryers, space heaters, and in rear windows to act as defrosters.
Heat lamps with high power incandescent lamps are another form of heating element. You will often find these in food warmers and radiant space heaters. These can also be found in heat lamps used for the care of animals. Molybdenum, platinum, silicon carbide, and disilicide are also elements used in high temperature furnaces.
Silicon Carbide Electric Element
Gas ovens often use silicon carbide igniters. They are also used as a radiant heat source, in furnaces, and in kilns. These heating elements are very clean, safe, and quiet and are very dependable and economical for high temperature thermal processing applications.
Moldatherm Heating Element
Conveyer furnaces often have this form of heating element. One benefit of Moldatherm heating elements is their uniformity in temperature. They are also very durable and have a long life. Moldatherm heating elements often offer reduced energy consumption and improved control over temperatures when compared to other types of heating elements.
LGO Heating Element
The main benefit of Light Gauge Over bend heating elements is there quick ramping time when compared to other types of heating elements. You may even see a reduction of up to 40% in electricity consumption with this durable long lasting element. The tube of this element does not contain a magnetic field.
